Remaining active during cold weather months will extend the holiday spirit beyond New Year’s and push away any winter blues
Charlotte Doonan, resident at Amber Ridge in Moline Senior Community, fights the winter blues by keeping her spirit, mind and body active and engaged. Along with a wonderful outlook on life and a positive attitude, Donnan considers activity to be a key factor in fighting depression.
- Spirit - Scriptural and spiritual lessons every day create the foundation for an uplifted outlook on life. Doonan attends spiritual readings and attends church services and bible studies offered at Amber Ridge.
- Mind – After years of making decisions related to her family business, the recent sale of the company created a sense of relief, but she still attends to issues related to farms associated with her family and keeps a weekly schedule for such activities.
- Body – Shopping can be more than a leisure activity for seniors, particularly if they build a walking and socializing routine around it. Shopping is an activity that requires physical exertion and walking, which helps provide Doonan, who involves her peers at Amber Ridge and her daughter, maintain a physical exercise routine.
Thank you, Charlotte, for sharing your tips on ensuring winter is a healthy season during the holidays and beyond.
